Jalopy is an independently made first-person vehicle simulation game developed by Minsksworks and published by Excalibur Games. The game is all about building a Laika 601 Deluxe (modeled after the Trabant 601) and drive it from Dresden to Turkey. Most people say that playing the game reminds them the Far Cry game series. In the Hungary update of the game, the feature where Uncle goes with you in the player's journey was removed because it contains too much bugs.

Gameplay

The game starts where the player lies down on the bed and the instructor named Uncle standing in front to wake up the player. It is set on 1980's Germany that features some of their city like Dresden and Istanbul where the player must build a Laika 601 (modeled after the Trabant 601) from scratch. There are currently three countries that players can explore; Bulgaria that also features Malko Tarnovo, Germany and Turkey. Players will manually pick parts in order to build the car. Building the car is obvious because an instructor instructs the player where to install the car parts. Like in My Summer Car, players will be able to start the car's engine manually and store goods at the trunk of the car. Furthermore, the task of the game is to drive the car to the designated task and when a certain location is reached, new destination is marked on the player's map on a book. Players will be able to stay in every city's hotel to save the current destination. While having a journey, when car parts have the wrench tool sign above them, players must fix it before their condition turns to zero and must buy a new part if parts are broken like wheels, engine, fuel tank, water tank, air filter, carburattor and ignition coil. Because of the games realistic animations, player must check every parts of the engine in order to run the vehicle. There are a variety of customization for the car including paint, additional 48 slots for storage, additional lights, vinyls, three types of wheels: the road, wet and off-road tire. Players can repaint, add a decal.

Reception

Even though the game is still on early access on Steam, the game receives plenty of positive reviews on Steam. The version 0.831 features Turkey after the player's journey to Istanbul. A website on Rock Papers Shotguns states that Jalopy’s presentation-style reminds me of Far Cry 2 – its diegetic map and commitment to first-person, mainly – and I already enjoyed that game primarily as an offroad jeep simulator. If this and American Truck Simulator arrive in 2016, I’m going to spend a lot of this year behind the wheel. Youtuber jacksepticeye was also seen playing the game.

A website on Sirus Gaming stated that Having been “greenlit” on Steam some weeks back Jalopy has enjoyed some positive press feedback and both Greg and Excalibur are looking forward to a successful response from the community.

This unique concept features a fictional Laika 601 Deluxe motor car reminiscent of the collectable East German “Trabbie” and it will need much love and care to keep it going on this memorable road trip!
