James A. Hunter is an American Fantasy and Science Fiction author and an active member of SFWA Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. He has written over thirty titles,[1] and is best known for his work in LitRPG Fantasy, a newly emerging genre that combines tropes and themes from role-playing games with sci-fi and fantasy elements.[2] James is the author of the Viridian Gate Online Series, ranked #11 on the BestFantasyBooks.com list of Best LitRPG Books[3] and #1 on Audible's Best Fantasy Series 2021,[4] the Rogue Dungeon Series, ranked #4 on TopScifiBooks.com list of Best LitRPG Books,[5] and his Yancy Lazarus Urban Fantasy Series.

In addition to writing, James and his wife, Jeanette, run Shadow Alley Press,[6] a publishing company based out of Lexington, Kentucky that focuses on Urban Fantasy, High Fantasy, Cultivation Novels, Military Science Fiction, and LitRPG stories.[7] James Hunter is also a former Marine Corps Sergeant, combat veteran, and pirate hunter. He served from 2005 to 2009 and deployed twice with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, first to Iraq in 2007 and then in 2009 as part of CTF151 (Combined Task Force 151)—a multinational task force established to help mitigate piracy off the eastern coast of Somalia.[8]
