James Andrew (Gym) Dakin is an artist specialising in works originating from his own body. As such these rely on the colours red, brown, yellow and to a lesser extent white and encourages a multi-sensory approach to his artworks.
His early career (1993-1999) focussed on music, specialising in acid jazz, human beatboxing, improvised funk and ABBA covers. During this time he collaborated with a multitude of of artists including Indy band 3 Kinds Of Eggs, dance producers Spacedust, rap-metal collective @ngelicC@rn@ge and the line dancing quartet Yee-Haw!.
After a brief hiatus, he reinvented himself as a practitioner of experimental street theatre in 2000 in Blackpool, Wigan and Chelsea, with the latter earning him acclaim within animal rights activist circles.
His later career involved accumulating enough raw material to realise ambitious artistic installations around the world which he invariably includes his signature pebbledash flourishes.
He credits his continued survival to his wife Leanne and considers his acknowledged children Noah and Darcie to be his greatest work.
