James Beard Swimmer was born on 9 July 1931 in the Melbourne suburb of Preston, Victoria to Walter Tredgold Beard and Irene Grace Mary Dunstan. He was baptised at the bar of Dunstan's Union Hotel, Tangambalanga, Victoria, Australia.

Swimming

He was part of the 4×220 yards freestyle relay team that came second at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland, New Zealand.[1]

Business

James (Jimmy) Beard took over the family transport business W T Beard & Sons PTY LTD after completing his apprenticeship as a fitter & turner at Holden Fishermans Bend, Victoria and continued to transport goods up until his retirement in 2001.

Death

Beard died in 2008 of Lung Cancer at his Watsonia home he shared with Heidi Sager and their 6 children for 41 years.
