James D'Agostino

Dr. James (Jamie) D’Agostino is an author and educator. He teaches English and Creative Writing at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO.

Biography[edit]

James D’Agostino received his BA from Loyola University of Chicago, his MFA from Indiana University, and his PhD from Western Michigan University.[1] He completed his dissertation, Nude with Anything, in August 2007.[2]

His works have been in Conduit, Forklift Ohio, TriQuarterly, Denver Quarterly, Rattle (Poets Respond), Third Coast, and Cimaron Review.[1] His poetry collection, Nude with Anything, was published by New Issues Poetry & Prose Press in 2006 and won the Diagram/New Michigan Prize.[3][1] In 2019, his chapbook, This Much, won the Wells College Press Chapbook contest. His work in This Much was later included in his chapbook, The Goldfinch Caution Tapes, which was published by Waywiser Press in 2023.[4] The Goldfinch Caution Tapes won the Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize in 2023.[5]

When talking about his poetry, he said, "I'm someone who wishes they were a painter. Someone who wishes they were a musician. I found poetry which lets me pretend both talents are there."[6] In 2010, he became the editor for the Chariton Review.

D'Agostino taught a master class at the Wells College of Visiting Writers in 2021. He also took part in Truman State University's English and Linguistics Department podcast in 2023.[7]
