James M. Brophy (American politician)

James M. Brophy (February 16, 1891 – January 28, 1970)[1][2] was an American politician from Georgia. He was involved in local Georgia Republican Party politics.

Early life[edit]

Brophy was born on February 16, 1891, in Rhine, Georgia.

Political career[edit]

Brophy was involved in Georgia Republican Party politics when he first ran for Congress in 1956 for Georgia's 3rd congressional district. That same year, he was elected as a delegate to the GOP committee.[3] He served as Third District GOP Chairman. In 1964, Brophy was 8th District delegate, and among one of the two in the Georgia delegation not to vote for Goldwater, but rather for Scranton.[4]

Personal life[edit]

Brophy died on January 28, 1970, aged 78, in McRae, Georgia.[1] He was survived by his wife, Molly Stuckey, and two sons.[1]
