James Nickele
James Christopher Nickele[1] (born June 13, 1992) is an American musician, record producer, songwriter, singer, entrepreneur, construction worker and financial advisor and life insurance agent. He performs music under the stage name James Waves[2] and is also involved in other acts such as The Delta Waves[3] and Gorilla Social[4][5].
Founder of James Waves Records[6] and financial advisor with New York Life Securities.
Background & Education
Born in Evanston, IL on June 13, 1992 and raised in Glenview, IL. He attended high school at Loyola Academy in Wilmette and continued his education at the University of Dayton where he studied Leadership and Finance.
Throughout high school, college, and post-college he worked for his father's construction company, Anchorage Construction. He later worked for Advisors Asset Management, which ultimately led to his current job as an Investment Advisor[7] at New York Life Securities. He continued his education in an alternate field in 2018 by attending Northwestern University and attaining a certificate in coding and computer science.
He first gained recording experience while working on his first singles at Jungle AE studio, located at the Music Garage[8] in Chicago, IL. He then took individual lessons on mixing from head sound engineer, Alex Cruz, working primarily with ProTools.
Music
It was not until the age of 13 when he first picked up the guitar. After a handful of lessons, it quickly became an obsession. Early influences are attributed to classic rock acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. Later on influences varied from artists of all different genres in pop, hip-hop, house and funk. Mostly self-taught, with some music theory classes from college, and later on a handful of lessons from Berklee Graduate, Bill Grady. He currently plays in The Delta Waves[3], a funk/blues/jam band as well as Gorilla Social[4][5] which is an indie alt/rock band.
