James Edward Roan (born 26 June 1994) is an American rapper, songwriter, recording artist and narrator based in Miami, Florida. Roan’s music style consists of a mixture of Rap and R&B.[1][2][3]
Early Life
Born and raised in Miami, Roan started listening to music at a young age and was heavily influenced by artists of older generations. Roan loved music and took a keen interest in learning more. Roan adapted music of different genres including Soul, Alternative, R&B, Rap and Rock. At home, he was exposed to different forms of music which groomed him to start writing his own music. By the age of 15, Roan had already written and recorded his first song, which is when he realized he was destined to create music.
Musical Career
Roan began his career using the stage name “Democracy,” releasing his first music in 2012 while he was in high school. This was an EP called “Time will tell” which consisted of seven tracks.
In 2014, Roan released another mixtape. This was called “Slowly but Surely” and consisted of 20 songs and was well received by listeners. Roan also created the artwork for this project himself.
After working on his debut album for two years, Roan finally released it in 2018. The album was titled “Enter End” and was a major hit. The album’s cover was a casual photo that shows Roan at his friend’s house looking at the water outside his friend’s condo in Biscayne Bay. The photo was taken by his friend a few years ago and Roan used it because it was a fitting cover for his debut album. The song “Rapture” on his album “Enter End” was a partial hit and gained over 25,000 streams on Spotify.

In 2019, Roan collaborated with R&B singer and producer Alayo on a new project titled “Seven Nights”. The album consisted of nine songs in total and was a major success, receiving more fame than his debut album. It garnered over 40,000 streams on Spotify.
By the end of 2020, Roan decided to change his stage name. He rebranded himself from his stage name “Democracy” to his birth name “James Roan.” Roan believed that this was the right thing for him and called it the best thing he’s ever done in his career thus far. Roan also released a remake of his mixtape “Slowly But Surely” in December 2020, but this time as a five-song EP. This EP marked the first official release under his new eponymous stage name.
In October 2021, Roan released his second solo album titled “Power Forward”. Roan started working on this album during college and it took him six years to finish it because he kept putting it on and off and released other projects in the meantime.
“Power Forward” is much darker and more aggressive than his debut album “Enter End,” and Roan’s rapping in this album was a significant improvement over his debut album.
“Power Forward” consists of 11 tracks from multiple producers including Jordeaux, Koolizm101, Enon Jacobs, Donnie Katana and Stoic. It also features guest appearances from Beijing Baby and Lil Ominous. The album was featured in online press including on Vents Magazine, Disrupt Magazine and Influencive.
Currently Roan is working on two projects. He's developing a new album with Miami Producer Rich Brian which will be titled “Elements of Life” and he’s also working on his fourth solo album titled “Lonely Nights In Brickell”.
