James Stroud is the founder and CEO of Stroud Homes, a highly renowned and trusted new home builder that has proudly built thousands of top-quality homes for families across Australia and New Zealand.
Career[edit]
Coming to Australia in 1997 from Canada to start a new adventure, James started out working as a carpenter for an architect in Hurstville, James quickly moved up the ranks and managed a team of five chippies. He then built a clinic for a developer in Queensland, which led to several families asking James to quote on their new home build.
Shortly after, James started as a franchisee with G.J. Gardner Homes. After 5-years of devotion, James established himself as franchisee of the year.
Whilst working as a franchisee, James noticed many issues where customers had bad relationships with their builder. James didn't like seeing people unhappy and didn't accept the constant conflict. James knew he could create a better way. In 2011, he established Stroud Homes with a vision of creating a better building experience for families. He achieves this through a detailed quality control system. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Kaizen, which means "continuous improvement", James believes that the key to success is to constantly evaluate and improve every aspect of his business. One of the ways that James implements Kaizen is through his 1,000-point checklist, which is used to closely manage builds across the company. From the foundation to the final handover, every step is checked and double-checked to ensure that the home is built to the highest standards. Stroud Homes provides reliable build times and weekly updates on build progress, providing families with transparency and constructive involvement in the process.
Stroud has earned a strong reputation for building affordable luxury homes and backs its craftsmanship. Stroud has each home inspected by independent handover assessors as a way to gain outside feedback that keeps the quality of finish high. Stroud Homes is rated in the top 5% of all buildings inspected for overall finish quality – and has managed to earn Zero Defect Reports, which is virtually unheard of in the building industry.
