James Taylor

James B Taylor (born James Blackstone Taylor III on December 14, 1921), also known as Jim Taylor and Mr. BizJet, was an American marketing executive[1][2] known for revolutionizing the way corporate aircraft were marketed.[3][4][5]

Education[edit]

Taylor graduated from the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut in 1940.[6]

Career[edit]

After 1942, Taylor became a naval test pilot, flight instructor, and carrier-based fighter pilot.[1][7]

In 1946, Taylor was appointed Vice President of Sales for Mallard Air Service at Teterboro Airport in NJ. One of his first customers was radio and TV personality Arthur Godfrey.[8] In 1948, Taylor joined Upressit Metal Cap Corporation. In 1962, he sold Upressit to its largest competitor.[1][9][10]

Pan Am Fan Jet Falcon[edit]

In 1963, Taylor joined Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) as Vice President of its new Business Jets Division.[7][3][9][11]

Cessna Citation[edit]

In 1969, Taylor became the Vice President and General Manager of Cessna’s Aircraft’s Commercial Jet Marketing Division.[7][3][9][12]

Gates Learjet[edit]

In 1985, Taylor took the position of President and CEO[9] of Gates Learjet.[1][13]

James B Taylor Associates[edit]

In 1988, Taylor established James B. Taylor Associates in Southport, Connecticut.[7][9]

Awards[edit]

Taylor received the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Meritorious Service to Aviation Award[14][15] and the Gathering of Eagles Program’s Man of the Year Award.[citation needed]

Death[edit]

Taylor died in 2003.[7][9]
