Jan Bijvoet (born December 28, 1966) is a Belgian actor and musician. In Flanders he is best known for his role as ‘JB’ in Van Vlees en Bloed, but Bijvoet also made notable appearances in Peaky Blinders, El Abrazo de la Serpiente, Ad Fundum, The Broken Circle Breakdown, Borgman and D’Ardennen.[1]

Bijvoet was born in Antwerp, in the Flemish speaking region of Belgium. He graduated from the renowned Studio Herman Teirlinck and had his theatre debut in 1991 in Jozef in Egypte, a production by NTGent. With NTGent he also played in Nachtelijk Symposium and Gruis. Following his roles in productions from NTGent, he played in Voor het Pensioen by Luk Perceval at the Blauwe Maandag Compagnie. Jan Bijvoet also joined Eric De Volder’s theater Ceremony and Toneelhuis. From 2005 till 2009 he was one of the artistic leaders of Theater Zuidpool: an Antwerp based theatre company.[2]

In 2007 he was nominated for the Flemish Culture Prize for Performing Arts.

Internationally, Jan Bijvoet is well-known for his role of Leon Petrovna in the British television series Peaky Blinders and Sev Herzof in the Dutch crime series Fenix (2008). Furthermore, he starred in the Netflix Originals series Into the Night (2020) and the Netflix Original movie The Forgotten Battle (2020).[3]

Together with Hadewig Kras, he also forms the musical duo Siesta. Together they recorded an album produced by Blixa Bargeld of Einstürzende Neubauten.
