Jan Dirkszen Meyer
Jan Dirkszen Meyer (~1625-1700) was a Dutch settler of New Amsterdam, who married into the prominent Kip family of Manhattan.
Biography[edit]
Jan Dirkszen Meyer [1]was an early settler of New Netherland. He was born in about 1625 in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherland and died on June 12, 1700 in New York City, New York County, New York. Meyer settled in New Amsterdam, now New York City, in 1651. Meyer was married twice. His second wife was Baertje Kip, the daughter of prominent New Netherland settler Hendrick Hendricksen Kip and one of the nine original popular assembly men in New Amsterdam. Meyer's descendants are numerous in the areas surrounding New York City, and use variations of the surname (e.g. Myer(s), Meyers, Meijer(s)).
