Janela Lelis
Janela Arcos Lelis (born 1999) is a young Filipino girl from Malinao, Albay in the Philippines, who was photographed saving a Philippine Flag from floodwaters caused by the onslaught of Tropical Storm Juaning on 26 July 2011. She stated she retrieved the flag under orders of her elder brother, Edcel, who was keeping the flag as a Color Officer for Malinao National High School's Citizen's Army Training detachment.
For her deed, Lelis was summoned to the City of Manila by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, and awarded with a commemorative plaque, a lapel pin of the flag, PhP 20,000, and a newer flag.[1]
