Janix Mendez is an alternative pop singer-songwriter from San Pedro de Macoris, San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.[1][2] She signed with Republic Records in 2019.

Early life[edit]

Her father is Italian/Dominican, her mother Dominican.[1] Mendez is Transgender.[1][3]

Mendez first started making music when she was nine, creating EDM music.[3] A big Lady Gaga fan, Mendez was further inspired to learn music production was she discovered the music of Madeon (one of the producers working on Gaga's Artpop). Mendez learnt synths and music theory through tutorials on YouTube and by reproducing songs on Artpop.[3]

Janix Marie Mendez was born in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. While she was assigned male at birth, Her parents said that from the age of two, Mendez knew she was a girl. After it became clear it was "not just a phase", her parents sought professional help and found the head of the psychiatric unit at Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Ben Ward where later stated "She was never a boy". Janix Marie Mendez known professionally as Janix Mendez is a Singer-songwriter, producer, LGBTQ+ activist/advocate and model born in Dominican Republic but raised in the fascinating scenes of New York City. At age 8 Mendez started pursuing her musical talent by doing vocal class in her middle school which led to her singing in many public events/venues around the city, now, Mendez is known for being the (1st Dominican Trans Women) to come out at a such young age.
