Jared Miller is a public administrator and the City Manager of San Marcos, Texas. [1]
Early Life and Education
Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from Abilene Christian University in 1992. He earned his Master of Public Administration degree from Texas Tech University in 2001 and made progress on his doctorate in Political Science at Texas Tech. [2]
Career
Miller worked for the South Plains Association of Governments from 2000 to 2003. He then served as City Manager of Crosbyton from January 2003 – August 2005. Miller served as City Manager of Snyder, Texas from August 2005 to November of 2007. [3] Miller has served as a member of the Texas City Management Association Board of Directors, as a member of the International City Management Association and the American Society for Public Administration, and as past president of the West Texas City Management Association.
North Richland Hills
Miller was an Assistant City Manager in North Richland Hills, Texas from November 2007 – December 2013. [4] In 2012, Miller helped oversee the design and construction of a new $25 million recreation center, the North Richland Hills Centre. [5] Miller helped administer a bond election to allow for the building of a police station, city hall, and municipal court after expansive construction on Loop 820 led to relocation. The bond was approved May 12, 2012, for $48 million in bonds for the $70 million municipal complex. The bond passed with a 67.8% approval rating. [6]
San Marcos
Jared Miller is the current city manager of San Marcos, Texas. He joined the city on January 6, 2014. [7] He “leads a team of 603 employees and administers an annual budget of $166.7 million to provide the San Marcos community with a wide range of city programs, including public safety, general government, community services, parks & recreation, planning and capital improvements, water, waste water and electric utilities, a municipal airport, social and special services.” [8] [9]
Personal Life
Miller is in the U.S. Naval Reserves, where he has served as an Information Dominance Warfare Officer since 2004. [10] Jared Miller and his wife, Kristin, have two sons. [11]
