Jarrod McGhee

Jarrod Chandler McGhee (born October 10th, 1972) is an American businessman. He is the CEO & Owner of Fun Town RV , the nations #1 Towable.[1]RV Dealer since 2013[2]

Early life[edit]

Jarrod Chandler McGhee was born Jarrod Chandler Long, to mother Linda Ann Long and father Daniel Long on October, 10th 1972 in Corsicana, Texas. He was one of the five siblings in his family with his mother "simply doing her best" and his father who was a truck driver and "nearly never around". Jarrod around the age of 17, he dropped out of Corsicana High School to work his now full time job and support his wife at the time and newborn daughter. Jarrod legally changed his last name from Long to his grandfather's last name,McGhee when he was around 21 years old.

McGhee was in a major car accident sometime when he was around 25 years old. He was severely injured, most notably breaking his neck. After spending six weeks in the hospital, Jarrod's Grandfather, Harvey Wilkes McGhee Jr., who was known as Buddy to most or as Pepa to the family, took him home, out to his land in the small town of Covington. Grandparents Maxine and Harvey both welcomed Jarrod in and nursed him back to health, under the condition that Jarrod would get his GED.

Career[edit]

The Early Days[edit]

McGhee started working when we has 14 as a grocery sacker for Fullerton Grocery in Corsicana. He worked his way up to being a produce manager. McGhee then became a Dr. Pepper Delivery man, delivering in the Corsicana, Canton and Athens area everyday. McGhee then moved to Dallas to be apart of the "Big City". He did odd jobs like Bartending. After his car accident mentioned before, Jarrod took a job driving a garbage collector.

Automotive Sales:[edit]

McGhee started his first auto salesman job at the Cleburne Dodge, Chrysler & Jeep Dealership after seeing an Ad for a salesman position while on his trash route, he applied and got the job. He worked his way up from salesman to manager in no time. McGhee was over Pre-Owned sales , alongside Kirby Blakley who now is one of Jarrod's Vice Presidents at Fun Town RV, was over the new sales at Cleburne Dodge. McGhee later ventured onto his own business, which was a "tote the note" dealership in Cleburne which was a failure that ended up going Bankrupt. He went back to being a salesman at Cleburne Dodge, then later he left to join Jeff England Motor Company, a Pre-Owned car dealership in Cleburne which Jeff is still known for his fantastic customer service. Fun Time RV[edit]

McGhee met Sam Kidd, the then owner of Fun Time RV, while working at the Dodge dealership, before he started at Jeff England. He sold Sam a few vehicles. Sam knew he wanted Jarrod on his sales team at Fun Time, which he tried immediately to hire. But McGhee was hesitant as he didn't know anything about RV's. Sam invited McGhee to work Fun Time's Display at the Dallas RV Show. After working that show, Never stepping a foot into an RV in his life, he sold 5 RVs that day, making more money than he made in an entire month selling cars. He knew he couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Fun Time RV was the #1 towable RV Dealership in Texas from 1987 to its closure in May of 2010, McGhee worked his way up to become the General Manager of Fun Time in around 2007. He remained the General Manager until Fun Time closed the dealership in May of 2010[3]

Fun Town RV[edit]

After being laid off due to the closure of Fun Time RV, McGhee founded Fun Town RV in August of 2010 at the site of a former Mobile Home dealership in Cleburne,TX with the backing of his then partners Basil El Marsi & Bill Brown. McGhee also recruited on former Fun Time team members including Raul Ramirez, who is now one of Fun Town RV's Vice Presidents.

Fun Town RV became the #1 Towable RV Dealership in Texas in 2011 and is still holding the title.

In 2013, Fun Town RV purchased the property in Cleburne where Fun Time RV sat and relocated its Cleburne Dealership there.

As of January 2020, Fun Town RV employs around 500 employees and has a total of 11 Retail Locations, across Texas, Oklahoma & Indiana, a Corporate Campus in Cleburne that houses their Customer Care Mega Service Center, a Pre-Owned Refurb Center, and Fun Town's Corporate Headquarters. Fun Town also has a PDI/Quality Assurance Facility called the Fun Town RV Excellence Center in Elkhart, Indiana

Other business ventures[edit]

McGhee in 2014 opened a Dickey's Barbecue Pit franchise, #714 at 2002 N.Main St in Cleburne,TX which he gave to his sister Amberly. The Franchise was sold in 2018 and is still open under the new owner.

McGhee also owns McGhee Ranch, his private cattle ranch in the small town of Covington, Texas.

Personal life[edit]

Jarrod has two children, daughter Valerie Baker, born November 3rd,1990 and son Chandler McGhee born June 10th, 2003.

Jarrod McGhee was Full-Featured in the Community Life Magazine in June/July of 2016.

Jarrod McGhee & Fun Town RV were featured in the Dallas Business Journal in 2017 for reaching 250+ million dollars in revenue.[4]
