Jasmine Coe (born 1995 or 1996) is a British-Australian artist.[1]
An Aboriginal woman from the Wiradjuri nation, Coe is best known for establishing the Coe Gallery - the United Kingdom's first Aboriginal-owned art gallery.[3] It was established in Bristol in 2022, with the location chosen due to its connection to Australia's colonisation.[3]
Since 2019, Coe has had her works shown in over twenty international exhibitions.[4]
Coe is the daughter of Aboriginal activist Paul Coe.[1] However, she grew up in London and didn't have much contact with her father until adulthood.[5] Coe travelled to Australia for the first time in 2017 where she reunited with her father after twenty years.[5]
In 2022, Jasmine Coe and her sister Edith Coe took part in a special event commemorating an historic moment enacted by their father in 1976 when he, along with Bundjalung man Cecil Patten, rowed ashore in Dover and claimed the United Kingdom as Aboriginal land on behalf of all Aboriginal Australians.[6]
Coe became an Australian citizen in 2019.[5]
In 2023, Coe was one of the Australian guests to attend the Coronation of Charles III and Camilla, one of fourteen notable Australians to accept an invitation.[7]
