He worked with a number of free to play online games (MUDs), along with contributing to Last Unicorn Games product line for Star Trek. He was part of the team developing the Miniatures Skirmish game to go along with the Roleplaying game, as well as, the Wolf 359 Tactical Combat Simulator prior to the company folding.

In 2000 he moved to Las Vegas, NV and met Thomas Adams. Together they started to develop scenarios for tabletop games, along with modifications to existing rulesets, as they worked with manufacturers on playtesting existing products. They worked heavily with a handful of miniature companies to playtest GUTSHOT! by Hawgleg Publishing, Battlefield: Evolution by Mongoose Publishing, Babylon 5: A Call to Arms by Mongoose Publishing, and the revisions to the Soldier's Companion for Space: 1889 by Bob Giglio.

Their focus is to develop simple, cooperative, and inexpensive games to help develop new tabletop wargamers. Coffey serves as the Lead Designer at Monomer Games in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their signature product was Zombie-A-Go-Go a cooperative play Miniatures rule set for Zombie games. It was followed by a tidal wave of other manufactures Zombie products, ultimately resulting in their remaining products being unfinished.

They spent several months developing a range of Cthulhu Mythos monsters for a unique "monster v. monster" skirmish game called Cthulhu Xothic Wars. Their first wave of miniatures are the Xothians, and were made available for sale in February of 2018 through their website, along with a free downloadable set of rules. Their second wave of miniatures, the Elder Things, became available in April of 2018. Finally their Core Rulebook was released in June 2018, and included some additional information on how to use a gamers existing collection of Human miniatures against the Cthulhu Mythos creatures.
