Jason Cook
Jason Cook is an American Unitarian Universalist minister serving Tapestry Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Lake Forest, California. He received public notice for accompanying asylum seekers and other immigrants at the Santa Ana immigration court, where they are facing deportation.[1][2]
Ministry and career
Cook is the parish minister at Tapestry Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Orange County. He holds a doctorate from Claremont School of Theology, an M.Div. from Meadville Lombard Theological School, and an M.A. in Interfaith Action from Claremont Lincoln University.[3]
From 2016 to 2024, he led the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Fullerton. During his tenure, the congregation participated in civic engagement, including participation in the Women's March and protests at LAX following the 2016 presidential inauguration.[4]
Immigration court accompaniment
Beginning in 2025, Cook was featured in media for accompanying immigrants to their hearings at the Santa Ana immigration court where ICE arrests were taking place for individuals leaving courtrooms.[5] According to the Los Angeles Times, many of the immigrants being detained at immigration court were asylum seekers.[1] The Los Angeles Sentinel described Cook and others' accompaniment as acts of civil resistance.[2]
