Jason DeRusha (born January 24, 1975) is an American television journalist. He anchors the Sunday night 10pm newscast at WCCO-TV as well as serving as the reporter / producer for the "Good Question" segment.[1]

Career[edit]

DeRusha's career started in 1996 at WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois. Since 2003, he has been employed by WCCO-TV. He also previously worked at WISN-TV and KWQC-TV.[2][3]

Awards[edit]

DeRusha has been nominated for a Regional Emmy award 15 times, he has won on 4 occasions.[3][4] In 2004 he won a Regional Emmy for his series called "Jason's Talking About." In 2007 and 2009 he won for Online Personality. In 2009 he also won for a Good Question segment on health.[5][6][7]

He was named one of the "Top 20 Minnesota Social Media Innovators"[8] and awarded "Best Online Personality" in 2009 and "Best Tweeter" in 2010 by City Pages.[9][10]

In response to his popularity, in 2009 Minneapolis Mayor R. T. Rybak proclaimed September 21 to be "Jason DeRusha Day."[11][12]

Personal[edit]

Jason DeRusha grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois.[13] He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is married to wife Alyssa and has 2 sons.

He is an active member of several online and social networking communities, including one of the earliest communities in Minneapolis, MNspeak. He's a predominant figure in Minneapolis on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. He is also very active in the community making several appearance in public every month.[13]
