Jason Elsasser

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jason Elsasser is an advocate and local pioneer in the legal cultivation of high-quality cannabis in Desert Hot Springs, California. His work with government agencies and civic organizations has cleared the way for local, legal commercialized cultivation of marijuana.[1]

Mr. Elsasser is managing member and Chief Operation Officer of Coachella Valley Growers, and Board member of CV Pharms. He is also President of Desert Hot Springs Cultivation Alliance Network (DHS-CAN), and Advisory Board Member to the City of Desert Hot Springs.[2]

History[edit]

As a resident of the California desert since 1984, Elsasser had an active career in commercial and residential real estate, but in 2008 after the economy crashed, leaving him close to bankruptcy, he had to evaluate his options. “I had a contract with Bank of America to pick up foreclosures, and there was a guy growing pot at one of the places I went to foreclose,” he said in the report. “I ended up giving the guy extra time because he needed time to harvest his crop, and he told me I ought to start using my properties to grow marijuana.” [3]

Desert Hot Springs Mayor Scott Matas said there are about 50 cannabis cultivation projects in various stages of development. Companies and growers pay an annual tax of $24 per square foot of cultivation space for the first 3,000 square feet and $10 per square foot after that. At least 20 percent of the businesses workforce must be local.[4][5]

Elasser also envisions the town, known for its mineral spas, could become a hot-spot for cannabis tourism and he anticipates it will become home to ‘bud and breakfasts’ and ‘soak and toke’ businesses.[6]

Elasser states that the combination of desert conditions, the natural mineral water famous to Desert Hot Springs.[7] and the support of Scott Matas, Mayor of Desert Hot Springs, will lead the city to be “The best US town to grow cannabis in the world”[8]
