Jason Knowles is a Consumer Investigative reporter for the ABC 7 Chicago’s prestigious I-Team...[1] and is known for recovering several thousands of dollars for consumers who have been wronged or mistreated by companies in the Chicago area, or who have been victims of scams and rip-offs.

Biography

Early Life

Knowles was born in 1974 near Cleveland, Ohio and attended Kenston High School where he graduated in 1992. Following high school he attended Bowling Green State University and graduated with a degree in Communications in 1996[2].

Prior to graduating college, Knowles also interned at MTV news in 1995 and was featured in the BG News newspaper for his work at the network[3] and he also appeared in a role as a reporter in the motion picture The Lucky Ones starring Tim Robbins and Rachael McAdams[4].

Broadcasting Career

Knowles began his broadcasting career in Hopkinsville, Kentucky as a weekend anchor[5] and then worked at WTVG 13 ABC Toledo as an Investigative reporter where he started that station’s I-Team[6]. While at WTVG 13, Knowles created a special segment called the Restaurant Report Card[7] that highlighted the sanitary conditions in local restaurants.

Knowles covered the opening of Oprah Winfrey’s Girls’ school in South Africa and also field produced for the 2008 Republican National Convention and the First Inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington D.C.[8]

Prior to becoming a Consumer Investigative Reporter Knowles was both a morning reporter and general assignment reporter[9]for ABC 7 Chicago covering breaking news.

In 2013, Knowles was promoted to the ABC 7 I-Team and was the first on-air addition to the team in 30 years[10].

Knowles has appeared on Good Morning America where he exposed that smart chips could fall out of credit cards[11] and for how hotel room reservations can be hijacked[12]. He has also been featured on CNN’s Larry King Live and Inside Edition[13].

Knowles is well-known in the Chicago area for exposing flaws in red light cameras and has uncovered red light traps in the suburbs that have resulted in growing revenue for some suburban communities[14], as well as how cut-rate car insurance is putting other drivers in danger of large out-of-pocket expenses[15]

Personal Life

Knowles currently resides in the greater Chicago area and is actively involved with several charities such as the Rehabilitation Institute[16] and also serves as an emcee for charity events that have included the 2016 Minds Matter Gala[17], The Gary Chamber of Commerce[18], and the Chicago Chapter of Susan G. Komen[19]

Awards

Knowles won an Emmy Award in 2009[20] for his coverage of the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama and the Diogenes Award for Excellence in Media in 2015[21] from the Chicago and Northern Illinois Better Business Bureau.
