Jason Semanoff Jr.
Jason Semanoff Jr. is a student leader from Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He currently serves as the Secretary of Education for the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC) and is one of four finalists for the Maryland Student Member of the State Board of Education (SMOB) for the 2026–2027 term.[1][2]
Early life and education
Semanoff began his student leadership journey in fourth grade, when his class wrote letters to their state delegate regarding a local community issue.[1] Details about his early life, including his date of birth, are not publicly available.
Student leadership
Semanoff became actively involved in student government through CRASC, an organization that represents secondary students across Anne Arundel County, Maryland.[1]
Prior to his current role as Secretary of Education (2024–present), he served as Middle School Coordinator (2023–2024) and Education Liaison (2022–2023).[1]
In addition to his CRASC leadership, Semanoff serves on several Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) committees, including the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, the Health Materials of Instruction Review Committee, and the Calendar Committee.[3]
Maryland SMOB candidacy
In 2026, Semanoff was named one of the four finalists for the Maryland SMOB position, which serves as a student representative on the Maryland State Board of Education. The SMOB participates in discussions and votes on educational policies affecting students statewide. The selection of the two finalists who will be forwarded to the Governor will take place at the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC) legislative session on January 24, 2026.[2][4]
Musical career
Semanoff is an accomplished young musician with a primary focus on the cello. In addition to the cello, he performs on guitar, bass guitar, drums, and trombone, and continues to expand his proficiency across other instruments. He also composes and arranges music in his spare time. Semanoff has expressed an interest in pursuing a career in music education while studying education policy and leadership.[5]
