Jason Weigand
Jason E. Weigand (born February 7, 1968) is a former US Army Veteran and 3X NCAA All American collegiate wrestler who wrestled for The University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. Weigand has been inducted into the West Holmes High School Hall of Fame, The Holmes County Hall of Fame and the University of Mount Union Hall of Fame.[1][2] He is the all-time leader in a couple major statistical categories for wrestling at Mount Union, including, most career pins, most pins in a season and the fastest pin. He was all conference all three years he wrestled at Mount Union winning the Conference Championship each year. He also was a two time team captain of the Mount Union Purple Raiders. Weigand became the first 3 time NCAA Division 3 All American in Mount Union history.
Early years[edit]
Weigand was born in Millersburg, Ohio and grew up in the rural area as the son of a farmer. Weigand believes that his work ethic started at an early age where he would work on the farm. Weigand decided to wrestler due to his encouragement from his cousin Russell Lint. Weigand attended West Holmes High school where he struggled in his first couple years on the mat, but due to a coach who took interest in him, Coach Lindy Rogers, Weigand became a formidable opponent on the mat. Weigand's senior year he finished after the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament with a combined record of 26-3.
College career[edit]
Weigand attended the University of Mount Union from 1992 to 1996. He became a standout Heavy weight wrestler and acquired the nickname "Big Daddy", because of his large frame and his non-traditional age due to serving his country for 6 years. Weigand still has two of the top 5 best individual seasons in school history at 35 wins each of his first two years at Mount Union. Weigand earned the honor of NCAA Division 3 All American 3 times--finishing 4th in Division 3 in 1994, 5th in 1995, and 8th in 1996. Weigand won 9 collegiate tournaments while at Mount Union. After his first season at Mount Union he was selected as the Freshman of the year. Due to his non traditional age, he decided to move into the professional phase of his life after his junior year of wrestling and retire his singlet.
Military service[edit]
Weigand joined the service in 1986 and took basic and advanced individual training at Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri. He had assignments at Ft. Leonardwood, Mo, Ft. Campbell, KY, and Ft. Bragg, NC. Weigand was a graduate of the following schools; Airborne, Ranger, Air Assault, & Special Forces Assessment & Selection. Weigand served his country 6 years leaving the military in 1992.
Personal[edit]
Weigand married Jennifer Fair on August 7, 1996. They have two children together: Jenna and Jaci.
