Jayant K Singh (born 3 February 1975) is an Indian Professor of chemical engineering[1]. and holds Mr. & Mrs. Gian Singh Bindra Chair at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Prof. Singh has made profound contributions towards understanding thermophysical properties of molecular fluids at nano-scale using statistical mechanics and molecular simulations.

Biography[edit]

Jayant Singh was born in Bihar, India. He received his B.Tech in chemical engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1997. Jayant started his career as a process engineer at Bechtel India (1997-1998). Prof. Singh moved to the United States in 1999 to pursue M.S. degree in computer science and engineering and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from University at Buffalo. Subsequent to his Ph.D., he joined General Motors India Science Lab in 2004 as a research scientist and worked on hydrogen storage materials. In December 2005, Prof. Singh joined Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur as an assistant professor. Currently is a professor and holds the Mr. and Mrs. Gian Singh Bindra Chair in the department of Chemical Engineering. He is also the Dean of Resources and Alumni[2] at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Early, he has served as head of centre for continuing education, associate dean of academic affairs and HPC Coordinator of IIT Kanpur. Prof. Singh was a visiting professor at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Vanderbilt University (2009), Department of Physical Chemistry, Technical University Darmstadt, Germany (2012), Laboratory of Engineering Thermodynamics (LTD), University of Kaiserslautern (2016), Department of Chemistry, University of Porto, Portugal (2016), Department of Chemistry, Okayama University, Japan (2017). Prof. Singh has been awarded JSPS Invitation Fellowship (2017), Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers (2012) and DST-BOYSCAST Fellowship (2008).

Research[edit]

Prof. Singh 's research focuses on material modelling[3], machine learning[4], self-assembly[5], ice nucleation[6], wetting transition[7], selective adsorption[8] and development of novel molecular simulations tool[9]. His major contributions include the development of free-energy perturbation methods for calculating thermodynamics properties. Prof. Singh has authored over 150 peer reviewed articles in international journals[10]. He is a recipient of prestigious awards such as SERB STAR Award[11], JSPS Invitation Fellowship, Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship[12], Young Engineers of Indian National Academy of Engineering, Amar Dye Chem Award of IIChE[13], BRNS Young Scientist Award and DST-BOYSCAST Fellowship. He is also a member of National Academy of Science, India. Jayant is also an associate editor of Chemical Engineering Communications, and is a member of the advisory board of ACS Chemical Engineering Data, ACS Omega, Fluid Phase Equilibria.
