Jayanth Munigala is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer of the Bihar/Jharkhand cadre, born into a farming family in Kamanpalle village of Adilabad District in Andhra Pradesh. He is the first IAS officer from Adilabad District. He took voluntary retirement from IAS in 2009 due to personal reasons.

Early life[edit]

He studied in Government Primary School, Kamanpalle up to III Class (1963) and subsequently studied IV & V Classes (1963 - 1965) at Church of South India Mission school, Luxettipet, Adilabad and VI - X Classes (1965 - 1970) at Wesley Boy's Multipurpose High School, Secunderabad. He studied Intermediate (1970 - 1972) in Wesley Junior College, Secunderabad. He graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1979 from College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad.

Career[edit]

He worked as a scientist in DLRL, Hyderabad from 1980, before joining IAS.

He was SDM, Chakradharpur Sub-Division, Singhbhum district; Under Secretary, Mines & Geology Department; DDC, Katihar district; DM & Collector, Supaul district.[1] and DM & Collector, Siwan district, Bihar State.

He was on deputation to Govt. of India as Deputy Financial Advisor/ Director Finance, Defence (Finance), DMDE, Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

He was re-allotted to the newly formed Jharkhand State in 2000 and held the following posts:

  • Director Primary Education.
  • Director, SIRD, Ranchi.
  • Commissioner, Palamau, Daltonganj.
  • First Commissioner of newly created Singhbhum (Kolhan)Division at Chaibasa.
  • Secretary, Disaster Management Department.[2][3]
  • Secretary, Institutional Finance & Program Implementation Department.[4]
  • Secretary, Excise & Probation Department.
  • Controller of Examinations, Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board.[5]

In 2002, as Director, Primary Education, Government of Jharkhand, he introduced English subject in government schools beginning from I Class which was the first such program in India.

In 2009, the Jharkhand government accepted his application for voluntary retirement.[6]

Writing career[edit]

He is the author of the following books / ebooks:

1. education - my perception, is a book and an e-book, which enumerates the need for change in the primary education curriculum to reduce the weight on the backs of the children. The book also suggests the reduced curriculum.

2. What If?, is a book and deals with the inventions and inventors. The book is an attempt to bring the inventors of the things we use in our everyday life close to us. There is an imagination that if the invention is not there, then what are things we does not have.

3. Shakehand, is an e-book with brief bioghraphies of some people with whom the author had shakehand.

He is working on one more book "IAS".
