Jayson Funnell (born 25 September 1996,in Gauteng) is a South African mountaineer, and is officially the youngest South African and person from the African continent to summit a few notable mountains of the Seven Summits challenge.

Seven Summits timeline[edit]

  1. Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa) 2011 + 2017
  2. Aconcagua (South America) 2012 - youngest South African at age 15
  3. Vinson Massif (Antarctica) 2013 - youngest South African at age 16
  4. Mount Elbrus (Europe) 2017
  5. Denali/Mount McKinley (North America) 2022 - youngest South African at age 25

Jayson started off his journey with his Father Raymond Funnell, a Leukemia survivor with the goal of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for blood disease such as Leukemia. They together climbed 4 of the Seven Summits while promoting South African National Blood Service and DKMS (formerly Sunflower Fund), to encourage people to donate blood and bone marrow to fight blood disease.

Jayson is now continuing the dream to climb the Seven Summits, fueled by the inspiration of his father. He has 2 more summits to conquer to become the youngest African to have climbed the Seven Summits.
