Jazwood
Jazwood is a term used to refer to Arabic motion pictures and, in general, Arabic language-based entertainment. The word ‘Jaz’ is derived from the Arabic word of Al Jazeera, meaning ‘Arabic Peninsula’; however, the term Jazwood refers to Arabic entertainment and film industry not limited to a specific suburb, city, or country, but instead across the Arab world (Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region).
Similar to how Hollywood and Bollywood recognize American and Hindi cinemas, respectively, Jazwood is a unique global identity that recognizes and celebrates Arabic motion pictures and entertainment.
Jazwood represents the core of Arabic cinema’s cultural identity along with Arabic movie studios, drama studios, actors, and actresses. In addition, Jazwood also represents the entertainment-associated supporting industries such as content editing, special effects, props, post-production, and lighting as an example.
The term was originally coined by the founders of ICFlix, the first film streaming service in the Middle East.
