Jazz Smollett (born April 11, 1980) is an American cookbook author, producer, television host and former actress. Smollett began her career as a child actress, appearing on television sitcoms, including On Our Own, alongside her siblings.
Career
Smollett currently appears as a co-host and executive producer alongside her brother Jake Smollett in CLEO TV's series Living By Design, which is currently in its second season.[1] The show focuses on redesigning spaces for young millennials, helping them bring comfort, function and personality to their homes complete with a home-cooked meal and dessert. As a cook, interior decorator, and lifestyle expert, Jazz serves as the lifestyle guru and cooking expert for "Living By Design".
Jazz authored her first cookbook in 2018 entitled "The Family Table: Recipes and Moments From A Nomadic Life"[2] It featured her mother and siblings, highlighting their unique culinary family traditions and included African-American and Southern classics. She previously appeared alongside her siblings in Food Network's limited series "Smollett Eats".[3]
She has appeared regularly on daytime and lifestyle television programs, including NBC's The Today Show, ABC's The Chew, The Rachael Ray Show, The Real and The Dish On Oz. She can also be seen sharing recipes, lifestyle tips and mom hacks on her upcoming IGTV channel and YouTube's parenting channel, "What's Up Moms". Jazz was a recurring guest judge on Food Network's Family Food Showdown hosted by Valerie Bertinelli.[4]
Personal life
Jazz was born in New York City, the second child and first daughter of Joel Smollett, Sr. (1956-2015) and Janice Smollett (née Harris). She is of African-American and Jewish descent. The family originally lived in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan and moved to Los Angeles in early 1991. In 2002, Jazz attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, earning her BFA in 2006.
In 2012, Smollett married Troy Warwell.[5]
