Jean-François Gérault, born on April 22, 1961 in Auch, France, is an author, biographer, translator and mentalist.

Biography[edit]

He was born on April 22, 1961, in Auch, France. He is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the European Order of Mentalists. In 2016, he published the book Initiation au mentalisme, à l’hypnose et à la Mnémotechnique (Initiation to Mentalism, Hypnosis and Mnemonics). He has written biographies of writers and articles on hypnosis and mentalism, and has created a blog partly about the theory and practice of mentalism.

Career[edit]

In 1994, Jean-François Gérault joined the team of editors of Année de la fiction (Year of Fiction) (thriller, sci-fi, fantasy, spying) for the publisher Encrage. In 1999 and 2000, he translated two fantasy novels by Wolfgang Hohlbein, Le mage de Salem (The Magician of Salem) and L’Héritage de la nuit (The Legacy of Night). In 2000, he published a study on Jean-Patrick Manchette entitled Jean-Patrick Manchette, parcours d'une œuvre, published by Encrage/Les Belles Lettres. This work was awarded the Maurice Renault 2001 prize by the Association 813. Various French and even foreign newspapers report on this first biography of Manchette. In 2003, still with Encrage/Les Belles lettres, he wrote a book on the Argentinean author Jorge Luis Borges: Jorge Luis Borges, une autre littérature.

From 2005 to 2010, commissioned by Rivages Editions, Jean-François Gérault translated from Spanish to French, three books by the Argentine crime fiction writer Raúl Argemí: Le Gros, le Français et la souris, Les Morts perdent toujours leurs chaussures and Patagonia tchou-tchou. Since 1983, Jean-François Gérault has been practicing hypnosis and mentalism in private evenings. He has written articles on mentalism in two specialized magazines: the monthly journal of the association Mental Arts Magie and La revue de la prestidigitation.

In 2012, he obtained his certificate of Ericksonian hypnosis technician at the French Institute of Humanistic and Ericksonian Hypnosis. He then trained in street hypnosis with the Arche Hypnosis Institute (2014) under the supervision of Bertrand Millet, master hypnosis practitioner.
