Jean-Pierre Martinez, born in 1955 in Auvers-sur-Oise (France), is a French playwright, screenwriter, and semiotician of Spanish origin.[1][2]. In the 1980s, he contributed to the works of the École de Paris, led by Algirdas Julien Greimas (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique). In collaboration with Jean-Marie Floch, he facilitated the school’s Advertising Semiotics workshop and published several articles on the subject[3][4]. He contributes to the development of the use of Greimassian semiotic models (particularly the semiotic square) in the field of marketing and advertising studies. He also worked for over twenty years as a semiotics consultant for some of the largest consulting firms, such as Ipsos[5].
Then, he wrote scripts for various French television series (Avocats et Associés, Sur le fil...). He taught at the European Conservatory of Audiovisual Writing in Paris[6]. At the same time, he started writing for the theatre. He has written 107 plays, translated into many languages and performed worldwide[7][8] [9] [10][11]. All his plays are published by La Comédiathèque Editions but they are also available for download on his website[12] [13].
His plays are the subject of studies in the theater departments of several universities[14][15].
He is a member of the SACD[16] (Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers).
