Jean Marc Guichet

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jean Marc Georges Olivier Guichet (born on May 11, 1961) is a French orthopedic surgeon specialized in limb lengthening. He is the inventor of two intramedullary nails: the Albizza nail (1986) and the Guichet nail (2007).

Education[edit]

He grautuated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Aix-Marseille II in 1991. He completed an M.D. in Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery at the University of Burgundy, a Ph.D. in Ergonomics and Biomechanics from the New York University as well as a PhD in Biomechanics at the University of Aix-Marseille II

Career[edit]

He worked in the United States and in the United Kingdom, as well as France and Italy. His expertise in integrating Medicine, Research and Engineering, has allowed him to develop several surgical techniques, including a gradual lengthening of limbs using intramedullary nails and numerous surgical techniques related to limb reconstruction (3D reconstruction over intramedullary nails, knee ligament reconstruction in children, trauma techniques in children and adults, like the ‘Reverse Kapandji’, etc.). Dr. Guichet is specialized in the field of limb lengthening with the first implantable lengthening nail spread over 17 countries. He has performed more than three hundred cosmetic limb lengthening surgeries with a full weight-bearing nail.

The Albizzia Nail[edit]

The Albizzia® nail can be used in three different bones: the tibia, the humerus, and the femur. The tube is rotated mechanically, increasing its length. Normally, it takes up to 10 days to grow by 1cm.

The Guichet Nail[edit]

Guichet® nail is the improved version of the Albizzia. It allows sports capacity during lengthening. The Guichet Nail uses high-resistant metals, this allows the patients to walk on the same day of the surgery and to achieve an increase in stature. To insert the nail, small incisions have to be made.
