About her work[1][edit]
Her work is a documentation of her own obsessive and accumulated desires that are trying to find a “change” in a reality that’s saturated of what the social or political environment should be like. Transiting through means as the performance, the installation, the video and the photography, as an intake of conscience, she reveals the vision of her society; formed and deformed from the censure, the ego, the simulacrum, the subordination of the individuals to regulated behaviors, where the concept of failure shines in front of the idea of the illusion.
She releases established paradigms in the socio – political sphere, using untouchable and sacred elements of her own national identity at a symbolic level.
Works[edit]
AUTOCENSURA / SELF-CENSORSHIP. 2006 Video. (without sound)[1]
Cambio de Estado / Change of State. 2005-08 [2]
Installation (on the ceiling)
The epaulettes of the military uniforms illustrate the soldier's range, also, they enlarge or not their status.I built the constellations that are seen from the gallery’s roof, in Cuba, using military epaulettes. The presentation and disposition of the constellations depends on which season we are (In the images I show summer season)To build this piece I used daily epaulettes (yellow stars) and campaign epaulettes (black stars), using the daily ones to draw the constellations.I was interested to put them all in the same levels, in this case the celestial so that differences of ranges don't exist. Liberating them at the same time of all relationship referred to the power, the supreme authority.
INTEGRATION I [3]
Performance
The performance consists of learning to sing the German National Anthem with the aid of a language and a music instructor. Word by word, the German teacher shows me the correct way to pronounce each word, while the music teacher instructs me on the melody.
INTEGRATION II
Video: 00:05:23
Integration highlights the fine line of transition that occurs when an immigrant is adapted to the host country; this line is experienced culturally and through identity. The process of integration affects all aspects of life, not only for the immigrant but also for the society that receives him. Without any previous knowledge of the German language I forced myself to sing the German National Anthem, this taxing effort left me in a state of desperation and exhaustion.
