Jeanne Martinet (author)
Jeanne Martinet (born 1958 is an American author. She has had seven works of nonfiction and two works of fiction published.[1] [2] Her nonfiction books are humorous self-help guides to dealing with various aspects of social interaction and social mores, including a 2020 handbook for navigating the current political polarization titled Mingling with the Enemy: A Social Survival Guide for Our Divided Era.[3] Her longest selling book is The Art of Mingling, first published in 1992. [4] In 2015, Martinet’s romance comic spoof Truer Than True Romance was named one of “The 10 funniest books of all time” by Inc. Magazine. [5]
Martinet has appeared as a social expert on numerous TV and radio shows, including NBC’s “The Today Show” [6] and NPR’s “Morning Edition” [7] She has been featured in many newspapers and magazines [8] [9] [10] [11] and has written for The New York Times, [12] Ozy Magazine, [13] Cosmopolitan, The Huffington Post and other publications.
BACKGROUND
Jeanne Martinet was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Her grandfather was Eugene Martinet, who founded the Baltimore Civic Opera company in 1927 and was its artistic director until 1947 [14] . Her uncle is Herman Raucher, an author and screenwriter whose most acclaimed work is Summer of 42’. Martinet received her B.A. in English Literature from the University of Virginia in 1980 and attended the Denver Publishing Institute in 1984.
Martinet’s first book, The Art of Mingling (1992, 2006, 2015) was a Library Journal Editors’ Pick for Fall 2015 [15] and has been published worldwide. Martinet’s philosophy is that everyone wants--and needs--to makes connections with their fellow human beings, and yet this is where most people’s greatest fears and failures lie.
