Jeff Brown is a broadcaster and journalist who has presented the north eastern version of the BBC regional news programme Look North since 2003.

Broadcasting[edit]

Brown was a newspaper journalist for 14 years, first at Birmingham Post & Mail before moving back home to the North East working on the sports desk of The Journal in 1986.[1]

Brown then moved to ITV Tyne Tees for the six-and-a-half years, working alongside Mike Neville - to co-present North East Tonight.[citation needed]

In 2003, Brown joined Look North as a sports presenter, before becoming the main presenter of the programme with Dawn Thewlis.[2]

Brown previously presented the sports element and stood in for Carol Malia when she was absent,[3] Brown describes her as "unflappable".[4]

In 2021, Brown opened a 1.5 million pound media facility at Sunderland University.[5]

Brown took part in strike action due to proposed cuts to BBC Local Radio services, in which he was absent from BBC Look North.[6]

In 2023, Brown hosted ‘an evening with’ alongside ITV Tyne Tees presenter Ian Payne. In September 2023, Brown wrote a play called ‘The Bench’ which was played at The Customs House in South Shields.[7]
