Jeffrey Prang

Jeffrey Prang is an American politician who is County Assessor of the County of Los Angeles, California.[1][2] Prang took office in that position on December 1, 2014, succeeding John Noguez who had been indicted on corruption charges in 2012.[3] Prang previously served as a City council-member for the City of West Hollywood for 18 years during which he was mayor for four terms.

Early life and education[edit]

Prang was born in 1962 in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Warren, Michigan. He is a graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University with a B.A. in International Relations. In 2004, he completed a certificate program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University for Senior Executives in Local and State Governments.

Professional life[edit]

Jeffrey Prang began his professional career as a real estate agent in Rochester Hills, Michigan in the mid to late 1980s [4]. In 1993, he completed the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Real Estate Appraisal Training program. In the ensuing years, Prang served as an Assistant City Manager for the City of Pico Rivera, Senior Advisor to Los Angeles County Sheriff Leroy D. Baca; Director of Public Information, City of Los Angeles Department of Animal Services; Press Deputy to Los Angeles City Council President Ruth Galanter; and Special Assistant to Los Angeles County Assessor Kenneth P. Hahn. More recently, he served as a member of the Executive Staff in the Los Angeles County Office of the Assessor. [5]

Personal life[edit]

He is an openly gay public official and lives with his partner Ray Vizcara in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. In 1999, Prang was involved in a sex scandal while serving as a member of the West Hollywood City Council and on an official visit to Portland, Oregon. Soon thereafter, he apologized for the ordeal.
