Jeffrey D. Wessler (Jeff Wessler) is an American cardiologist, healthcare executive, and entrepreneur. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Heartbeat Health.[1], a virtual-first cardiology company. He has held academic appointments at Columbia University Irving Medical Center[2] and the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell[3].
Early life and education
Wessler grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, and attended Phillips Academy Andover. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Williams College in 2007. He then received a Master of Philosophy degree in public health from Churchill College, University of Cambridge, in 2008. In 2012, he earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School.
Wessler completed residency, served as chief resident, and finished a cardiology fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center.[4]
Career
After completing his fellowship, Wessler joined the faculty at Columbia University, where he practiced as a general cardiologist and took part in teaching and inpatient consult services[2]. He later held an academic appointment at Northwell Health[3].
In 2017, Wessler founded Heartbeat Health, a technology-enabled cardiology company focused on remote cardiovascular evaluation and management[1]. The company provides virtual consultations and related services and has worked with health plans, primary care organizations, and employers in multiple U.S. states.
Research and writing
Wessler has co-authored peer-reviewed articles[5][6] on digital health tools in cardiology[7], virtual care delivery, and wearable devices in cardiovascular disease. His work has appeared in journals including JACC: Heart Failure, Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, and NPJ Digital Medicine[8]
He has also written and spoken publicly about healthcare and digital cardiology in business and medical media, including Forbes[9] and CNBC.
Recognition
Wessler is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology[10]. He has been included in industry profiles highlighting healthcare technology leaders and digital health executives.[11][12][13]
