Jelling Seminarium
Jelling Seminarium, previously known as Jelling Statsseminarium, is a combined teacher and pedagogue seminary in the Danish town of Jelling, Vejle Municipality, South Denmark Region. The seminary is a part of the University College Lillebælt.[1]
History
Jelling Seminarium was established in 1841 for the education of teachers. It later became a state seminary. From 1982, the teacher education program was added. Simultaneously with the expansion of the activities, in 2002 the seminary changed its name to CVU Jelling, which four years later merged with seven other educational institutions in the Triangle Region under the common name University College Lillebælt.
Sloyd (sløjd)
Jelling Seminarium was one of the first teacher's seminaries in Denmark to offer teaching in sloyd, as in 1890 a small amount had been granted for experimental lessons in sloyd. It was in H.S. Sørensen's rectorship, but also the two subsequent principals, N.A. Larsen and Hemming Skat Rørdam, are names in the history of sloyd. Larsen was a censor at the Danish Sloyd Teacher School, and Skat Rørdam was active within Askov Skolesløjd and for a number of years chairman of the Sløjdforeningen (Sloyd Association) from 1902. There has been sloyd until the subject was replaced by material design in 2007.
Survival of planned decommissioning
In 1969, there was talk of closing Jelling Seminary, but the seminary survived.[2] Among the seminary's students are a number of well-known football players from Vejle Boldklub such as Erling Sørensen, Tommy Troelsen, Ole Fritsen, Ulrik le Fevre and Kaj Poulsen. All Danish seminaries have now been formally closed down and teacher training has been placed under university college.
