Jennifer is an American eurobeat singer known for her contributions to the 'That's Eurobeat Now' and 'Digibeat' CD series. Her most famous song is 'If You Were Here' which was featured in the arcade game 'Dance Dance Revolution'. Little is known about Jennifer as artists, including herself, on the earlier mentioned CD series didn't tend to use their full names. We however do know that she was active in the area of Los Angeles.[1][circular reference]

Early career

In Jennifer's early career, she recorded a double album project entitled "Café Blanc, My Way To Love". It was released in Japan in 1992 through Columbia. The music on these albums was written by some of the same lyricists as those who wrote Jennifer's Digibeat music, one of them being Lisa Wilson.[2] This was a mainstream pop music project and was released prior to the Digibeat series which brought her the most fame. The producers involved in the Café Blanc CD series liked her voice and asked Jennifer to do a song for one of the Digibeat albums. She sang one song and was eventually asked to sing more songs over the next decade.

Digibeat

Digibeat is a Japanese music label and a division of Chapter One Inc.[3] The label released multiple CDs in the early 2000s. The CD series featured music composed by the I've Music group.[4] The vocals for this series were recorded in various studios across Los Angeles, one of them being the famous Studio Ultimo in Hollywood. At the time of these recording sessions, Jennifer was living in Malibu. Her days started at 11AM each day, with only a couple of songs recorded in the evenings. It was not common for the artists to meet each other.

Jennifer wrote: "I remember catching a cab up to the studio some days so I didn’t have to drive and could focus on learning the words and music on the drive into the studio. I also recall getting myself mentally psyched up to walk in the studio and record each day. I wanted to be energized and upbeat to record such fast paced music. So many of the intro’s on these songs are so awesome, that just hearing them would get me energized and ready to sing. I especially liked the heavy synth intro on track 3 of Euro Diva Jennifer, “Make a Change.” You can’t help but get energized and excited to sing just hearing that intro (and so many other intro’s). That helped a lot in the studio. I was definitely dancing to the beat whenever I wasn’t needing to hold still and sing!"[citation needed]

Euro Diva Jennifer

On the 21st of November 2001, Jennifer's debut album 'Euro Diva Jennifer' was released.[5] The album featured 17 tracks of which 12 were extended versions and 5 remixes. The CD was colored bright pink, Jennifer's favorite color. She calls herself a true Diva so the title of the album was a perfect fit to her personality.

Songwriting

Even though Jennifer sang many of the songs featured on the Digibeat CD series, she did not write the lyrics herself. The lyrics were mostly written by lyricists such as Lisa Wilson and Piccolina (Mitsuko Komuro).[6][7] The lyricists had recorded demo versions of the songs on cassette tapes and these were mailed to each artist to prepare for the recording session. The final vocalists, of which Jennifer was one, would then prepare for the session and head to the studio with a sheet of lyrics. Jennifer however did make small adjustments to the songs: she added notes and added emphasis to certain parts of the lyrics. She for instance did this in her track "The Only One you Need", in which she chose to dip the pitch on the word 'Eyes' in the 2nd line of the song. Every once in a while there would be a lyric that didn't quite fit with the melody, in that case Jennifer and the team in the studio worked together to find the best solution and collaborate on it.

Dance Dance Revolution

Jennifer's song 'If You Were Here' was featured on the popular arcade game Dance Dance Revolution.[8] She actually plays Dance Dance Revolution herself, and 'If You Were Here' has been the song of her choice since she discovered it on the arcade game during a visit to Disneyland in California.
