Jennifer George (playwright)

Jennifer George is an American playwright, director, and professor from the Metro Detroit area in Michigan. She is the author of the three act play Mixed.

Early life

George was born in Granada, Spain, but mainly grew up in the Metro Detroit area in Michigan, and lives in Ferndale, Michigan. Her mother is of Polish, Irish, and Scottish descent, while her father is of Assyrian descent. George attended Wayne State University, where she majored in Theatre Arts. While working at the Wayne State University bookstore during the Gulf War, she encountered prejudice against the Middle Eastern students on campus and was inspired to work toward equality.

Career

After graduating, George moved to Paris, where she worked with Euro Disney and eventually spent more than eight years there. She received two French degree in Deug and License in theatre from La Sorbonne, University of Paris. At age 30, she returned to Michigan where she worked as an adjunct theatre professor at Wayne State. She then taught French at Marygrove College for seven years.

She directed Hamlet Machine/Hamlet in 2003 and later started a production company, George, LLC, for which she began to write works. Her play Mixed is her only written work that has been produced in a full production. George teaches theatre at Oakland Community College and Birmingham Theatre House to children and young adults.[1]
