Jeremy Mattea is an Australian racing driver and Engineer who currently competes for Mattea Motorsport in the Australian Motor Racing Series and QLD, NSW and SA Hillclimb Championships.

Early Life[edit]

Jeremy Mattea was born to Australian Ex-McLaren and Ferrari Formula One Engineer Richard Mattea[1] and wife Carly in Danta di Cadore, Belluno, Veneto, Italy. He moved to the city of Brisbane in 2006, currently holding dual citizenship In 2010, he began his racing career in karts at the age of 5 for the family-owned team set up by Mattea Snr and Dean Tighe, son of notable Australian engineer Ivan Tighe, as a division of Ivan Tighe Engineering. After a life-threatening accident in the summer of 2014, his career in karts was over. During the hiatus from 2014 until 2016, Mattea kept sharp by recreationally racing motocross with family friend Daniel Ricciardo. He then began racing a Spectrum 015b Formula Ford in 2016, this move was made as the larger car provided more structural support and safety. 2017 was the year where 14-year-old Mattea graduated to the Mattea Motorsport owned and run Dallara F304 Formula 3 race car for competition in the Australian Formula 3 Series, winning Rookie of the Year[2] in his debut season and Junior Driver of the Year, three years in succession. As well as the Formula 3 championship, Mattea regularly competes in the Qld, NSW, and SA Hillclimb Championships, in the Mattea Motorsport-built Dallara Judd 4.0 Hillclimb Car. In the Qld Competition, Mattea has scored 2nd for the last 5 years straight. Mattea was the 2017 NSW and SA Hillclimb Champion. As well as driving success, Mattea prepared, via Mattea Motorsport[3], every car that finished in the top 5 at the Australian Hillclimb Championships in 2019 with Mattea’s own car finishing 3rd outright, albeit not with him behind the wheel due to age restrictions.
