Jeremy invented Coke Zero as Head of Innovation for Europe at Coca-Cola which was then launched in 2005. He noted that consumption of Coca-Cola per head declined across Europe as boys transitioned to young men while this pattern did not occur in the USA, Mexico and Iceland. Research commissioned with Daryl Edwards Associates, San Diago[7], identified that young men wanted to associate with adult beverages such as coffee, energy drinks and alcohol while the red colour of Coke appeared childlike. A black can was designed with a new non aspartame low sugar recipe to create Coke Zero supported by male orientated advertising.[8]
Sainsbury’s was suffering from 10 years of sales decline[9] and Jeremy joined as Brand Director 2002-05 to develop a turnaround strategy. Engaging President Clinton’s political pollster Stan Greenberg[10] a plan was developed to get Sainsbury’s ‘voted back in’ by UK shoppers with the internal slogan “Making Sainsburys Great Again”[11]. Under Justin Kings new leadership as CEO in September 2004 the campaign was launched in February 2005 driving a +5% LFL growth in sales and 39 consecutive quarters of growth. The Active Kids campaign created by Jeremy was launched in 2005 to demonstrate how Sainsburys cared for hard pressed mums and their children’s wellbeing at school and led to Sainsburys sponsoring the 2012 Paralympics.
Marco Pierre White and Jeremy Schwartz collaborated to invent Glorious! soups and desserts. Launched in January 2008[12] across major UK supermarkets it has sales in 2013 of £10[13]. The Glorious! brand was sold to TSC[14] [15] in 2009 who undertook a management buyout funded by Key Capital Partners. TSC was sold by Key Capital Partners[16] to Edward Billington and son in 2014 for £35m.
He first joined L’Oréal UK in 1992-97 and launched Elseve haircare brand which is now the market leader in the UK. The success was attributed to using Jennifer Anniston, famous for her hair style, as the spokeswomen for the brand launch and a departure for L’Oréal from using supermodels. Launching the brand line “Because I’m Worth it” for the first time which was then rolled out globally. Changing the European name from Elseve to Elvive for the UK.
Jeremy returned to L’Oréal in 2010[17] and was Managing Director 2013 where he launched the purpose “Nothings Impossible, that’s the beauty of L’Oreal[18].”
Becoming Chairman and CEO of The Body Shop international[19] 2013-2017. Launching the new purpose “To Enrich not Exploit”[20],[21], renovating the brand[22],[23],[24], growth of skincare to 30% of sales and new sustainability campaigns Forever Against Animal Testing[25],[26],[27] and BioBridges[28],[29] supported the sale of the company to Natura for a reported 1bn€ in 2017[30],[31],[32]
As joint interim CEO of Pandora[33] he co-created with Anders Boyer, CFO, the business transformation Program Now with the call to action: Reigniting a Passion for Pandora[34]. Reorientating the business to ecommerce and data analytics[35] alongside relaunching the brand purpose To give a voice to peoples loves[36] led to 300% increase in share price between 2019 and 2021[37].
