Jesse Hamilton
Jesse Hamilton is a Christian author. Originally from Louisiana, Hamilton was raised in the home of a pastor, former NFL football player Andy Hamilton. He became a Christian under his father's ministry at the age of 16. After feeling led to become a missionary, Hamilton majored in English in college so that he could teach in any foreign country and thereby gain a visa. He served as a missionary in Asia for over seven years before circumstances beyond his control forced him home. After returning to the States, he continued his education, earning an MA (with distinction) in systematic and philosophical theology at the University of Nottingham under the tutelage of Simon Oliver, now Van Mildert Professor of Divinity at Durham University. He then enrolled at the University of Aberdeen and began studies toward a PhD in philosophy of religion. After careful consideration of several factors, most significantly the call of God upon his life for ministry, Hamilton eventually withdrew from his PhD program and instead turned to writing in practical theology. To date, he has published three books in this field.
Hamilton's first book, Prayer: The Church's Great Need, was originally a sermon preached in 2003. After several people close to him recommended that it be written down, the book was published with Grace and Truth Books in 2011 and reprinted in 2023. His second book, Discipleship and the Evangelical Church: A Critical Assessment, explores the various ways in which the modern evangelical church has left its true calling and is presently pursuing various counterfeit programs and ideologies. His most recent book, How to Be a Christian, is a straightforward presentation of the basic facts of the Christian faith aimed at believers and unbelievers alike.
Hamilton is also a poet. He maintains a personal website at jessebhamilton.com. He is married to Ana, an award-winning pianist from the Republic of Moldova, and father to a daughter, Lizzy, who was born in China.
