'''Jessfield 76''', commonly known as '''No. 76''' (Chinese: '''76號'''), was the secret police and intelligence headquarters of the '''Special Committee on Intelligence''' under the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang during the Second Sino-Japanese War. It was established in 1939 in Shanghai under the Wang Jingwei regime at No. 76 Jessfield Road (present-day Wanhangdu Road), within the western extension of the Shanghai International Settlement, adjacent to the Japanese Kempeitai headquarters.
The organization operated under Japanese direction and functioned as a major intelligence, counter-resistance, and political repression apparatus against agents loyal to the Chongqing-based Nationalist government, underground resistance networks, and anti-Japanese activists. Owing to its address, the organization became widely known simply as “No. 76.”[1]
