HISTORY Originally from New Zealand, Jessica is known for her modern collections which use traditionally handcrafted in Georgian and Victorian techniques. McCormack grew up in Christchurch New Zealand, she came to diamonds from the world of art and antiques: Her father had an auction house and she was planning to follow in her father's footsteps and work in an auction house.[2][3] She spent much of the childhood and teenage years surrounded by interesting and unusual objects.

During her 20s Jessica spent a year interning in the Jewelry department at Sotheby’s in London and this is where she met one of her business partners Michael Rosenfeld. Mr Rosenfeld asked whether she would be interested in working with diamonds and she created a suite of pieces that placed the highly polished stones with rougher found objects, which eventually led to her first collection in 2008 — Messenger of the Gods — focusing on the shape of wings and bird bones. That same year, with Mr Rosenfeld’s backing, she opened an appointment-only workshop in London’s Clerkenwell[4], clients have included Rihanna and Madonna.[5]

PRESENT DAY Located directly across from The Connaught Hotel. Jessica personally curated every detail of the five-storey house. The interior of the five-story red-brick building, designed by London architects Powell Tuck Associated, contains high ceilings, bay-style windows, aged wooden floors, fireplaces, and a well-manicured and inviting backyard patio.[6] Stacked to the cornicing with contemporary art, quirky books, family photographs, antiquities and other ephemera —the house is so central to the business that those within refer to it as a “silent partner”[7]. It is home to the workshop, as well as McCormack’s design studio, but its principle role is to drive home the personality of the brand. [8]

Jessica has two business partners; Michael Rosenfeld, a third generation diamantaire who sources diamonds and Rachel Slack, a businesswoman and a member of the Oppenheimer family, the long-time custodians of De Beers[9]. Although untrained in jewellery, McCormack had started making pieces using mechanical and antiquarian oddments from her father’s antique dealership and continued her work in London. McCormack opened an exclusive Mayfair boutique the following year to create an intimate customer experience[10]

DESIGNS McCormack’s collections (which include "Tattoo," "Jewels of the Urban Night," and "Messenger of the Gods") are well defined with personal stories and consistent motifs. The New York Ring from the Jewels of the Urban Night collection is inspired by the jagged edges and geometric features of the architecture of the New York skyline. The Art Deco motifs are created through channel-set diamonds in geometric lines and grids.[11]

In 2015, the in-house workshop opened, using traditional handcrafted Georgian and Victorian jewelry-making techniques; absent of any machines, computers, or computer-aided design.[12]

INFLUENCE Her Georgian-inspired creations have a distinctive rock’n’ roll twist that have made them favourites with collectors.[13] She is known for her 'Party Jacket' concept and the idea of creating the Jewelry wardrobe.[14] [15]

In 2017 Colleen Caslin joined the business as Chief Executive Officer, she recently finished a successful eight-year run as the COO of Verdura and Belperron in New York.[16] In 2017, McCormack launched the Chi Chi collection, Trip the Light Fantastic and the Heart collections[17]
