Jessica Starr (1983 – December 12, 2018) was a meteorologist working for WJBK Fox 2 in Detroit, Michigan. She died on December 12, 2018 at the of age 35 from an apparent suicide.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Jessica Starr was born in Southfield, Michigan, a suburb north of Detroit. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in geography and communications. In 2008, she received a certification in broadcast meteorology.

Career[edit]

Jessica Starr began her TV career at WLNS-TV (Channel 6) in Lansing, Michigan as the Weekend Meteorologist. While working in Lansing she also traveled nationwide working as a Model and Product Specialist for Auto Shows.

Before coming to WJBK, Starr was the Weekend Meteorologist and Feature Reporter at Fox affiliate WBFF in Baltimore, Maryland. As their feature reporter, she covered numerous community events. As a meteorologist, she covered two Nor'easters of 2010. Just from those two storms alone, Baltimore broke the record for the most seasonal snowfall totals in history that year by receiving over 55 inches of snow. In 2012, Starr returned to Detroit by joining WJBK as their morning meteorologist.

Personal life[edit]

Starr was married to her husband, Dan. They had two children, a 5-year-old son, Noah, and a 3-year-old daughter, Riley.

Death[edit]

On December 12, 2018, Starr died while recovering from LASIK surgery. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death a suicide by hanging.[2] She was 35 years old.
