Jessie J. Walker is a computer scientist and academic. He is an Associate Professor of Instruction in Computer Science at Texas State University.[1] His research has included cybersecurity, cloud computing security, and intrusion detection. In 2015, he was named an Arkansas Research Alliance Fellow while serving at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.[2][3]
Education
Walker earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2000 and a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Iowa in 2004.[1]
Career
Walker was a faculty member at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff from 2004 to 2016, where he worked in computer science and cybersecurity.[4] In 2015, he was among five researchers named as Arkansas Research Alliance Fellows at a news conference at the state Capitol with Governor Asa Hutchinson.[2][3] The Pine Bluff Commercial reported that each fellow received $75,000 over three years and that fellows were nominated by the chancellor of their university.[3]
At UAPB, Walker was also involved in the Jefferson County STEM Workforce Initiative, a regional partnership involving the university, local school districts, and regional employers.[4] He later joined Texas State University as an Associate Professor of Instruction in Computer Science.[1]
Research
Walker's research has focused on cybersecurity and intrusion detection in cloud computing environments. In 2016, Chameleon Cloud, an NSF-funded testbed operated by the University of Chicago and the Texas Advanced Computing Center, profiled an NSF-funded research project involving Walker, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, North Carolina A&T State University, and Louisiana State University. The project studied detection of multi-stage intrusion attacks in infrastructure as a service cloud environments, and Chameleon identified Walker as the project's principal investigator.[5]
In 2015, Walker received an NSF Campus Cyberinfrastructure award to develop a Science DMZ network at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to support data-driven research.[6]
