Jeunvie is a natural skin care company set up with chronic skin disease sufferers in mind, such as Acne, Dermatitis and Systemic scleroderma. They have been known to work with a number of charities in the UK, specifically ones dedicated to creating awareness to life limiting and disfiguring skin illnesses. [1] [2] [3] Similar brands to Jeunvie are Weleda, Rachel K, Cativa Natureza and Jurlique

History[edit]

Jeunvie started as a small family business founded by Maria Delray, who was diagnosed with (Diffuse) Systemic scleroderma, a rare (19-75 per 100,000 people) life limiting condition that partly manifests itself with dry reactive skin and can cause musculoskeletal, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, renal and other complications. [4] [5][6]

There is no cure for scleroderma, though there is treatment for some of the symptoms, including drugs that soften the skin and reduce inflammation. Delray opted to go down the natural (Holistic) route to keep the illness at bay, which inspired her to develop her own natural skin care range to make the symptoms more bearable for herself and other sufferers.[7][8]

Whilst in hospital during a chemotherapy treatment, Delray met Asal Shirazi who also suffers from scleroderma. With her medical background Shirazi began volunteering to helping formulate new recipes for future Jeunvie products as a distraction from her illness, the company has grown from there expanding their product range.

Products and philosophy[edit]

Jeunvie claims to refrain from using Paraben and Sulphates as they have linked to some cancers including breast cancers, instead only use organic natural ingredients which is said to repair and protect skin from free radicals. These highly reactive molecules are associated with numerous diseases and aging and are generated by our exposure to environmental factors such as UV light, chemical sunscreens, smoke, pollutants and radiation. Studies show, the use of antioxidants externally combat free radicals at the surface before they get the chance to damage the skin or enter the bloodstream.[9] [10]
