Also, he has worked in Punjabi, Hindi films including Jattsland, Parjaat, Rode college, Sam Bahadur and Patang. He made his Bollywood debut with the film Chamkila directed by Imtiaz Ali.
Controversy
Regarding the ‘Look of Pandit’, he was surrounded by controversies. His look without a turban was accused of hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community, in response to which Jhirmal Gill wrote an apology on social media. He also clarified there is a difference between real life and reel life, that it is only a character look as he worked in KGF with the same look, and many more projects are lined up with the same look.
Early life
Born as Jhirmal Singh Gill on June 5, 1997, to a Sikh Jat family in the village of Pipli in Faridkot, Faridkot. He earned a Bachelor of Arts at Punjabi University in Patiala. In an interview with The Tribune, he said, "It was my mother who told me that I should try acting/modeling. So I started acting in school, where we performed various plays. I won a number of medals in Taekwondo at different national/international level tournaments. During my graduation, I started theatre again, and we did various items like Malwai gidha, Natak, etc., on Youth festivals. So I worked in Punjabi songs as a model, and my journey started. When I got a call from the Medal movie, I was working in school; that was a turning point in my life. I left the teaching profession and chose acting as a full-time profession. I am an actor because of my mother, and I love her for having faith in me."
Career
Gill started his film career with KGF directed by ‘Parshanth Neel’ and released in 2018. He played the role of Rana, which was a small role as a junior artist. It is a negative role. Jasmine Singh of The Tribune said, “Medal is also the ground for Jhirmal Gill, who opens his innings here. If it were just looks, the actor gets a five on five; as far as dialogue delivery goes, there is more work that needs to be done. All the same, he makes his character look and sound real.”
In 2019, he started with a special appearance in Gurwinder Brar's starrer Jattsland directed by Gurmeet Sajan & Manjeet Toni. He worked as a negative supporting role. The film was written and produced by Jawed Khan and also starred him as a lead actor.
