Jiansheng Chen
Jiansheng Chen was a 60-year-old man who was fatally shot by a security guard in the community where he lived, Chesapeake, Virginia, on January 26, 2017.[1] Jiansheng Chen was playing Pokémon Go in a minivan parked near the community clubhouse when the security guard shot him six times.[2] Chesapeake Police Department spokeswoman Officer Kelly Elliott stated that Chen was not armed when he was shot.[3]
On Monday, February 6, 2017, Andrew Sacks, an attorney representing Citywide Protection Services, the security guard's employer, held a news conference. According to Sacks, Chen attempted to run over the guard with his van, and the guard fired in self-defense.[4]
Greg Sandler, an attorney representing Chen's family, stated that Chen was playing "Pokémon Go" when he was shot.[5] Police reported that the guard fired through the vehicle's windows.[6]
The River Walk Community Association suspended its contract with Citywide for unarmed security patrol services following the shooting.[6]
